Prevent MS Word from reducing the resolution of inserted pictures

By default, MS Word is configured to compress inserted images which might result in decreased resolution and loss of image quality.

You can prevent this behavior by setting the High fidelity image resolution option:

  1. Click [File –> Options –> Advanced].
  2. Under [Image Size and Quality], select the option “High fidelity” as the [Default resolution].

Disable [Automatic word selection]

You might have experienced the sometimes annoying behavior of MS Word when it selects the word differently than you want it to select by automatically extending the selection to characters you actually want to be excluded from the selection.

How can we make MS Word stop auto-highlighting words when we select a word? To achieve this we have to disable the so-called [Automatic word selection] option:

  • Open Microsoft Word.
  • Click on [File] in the top menu and then select [Options] from the dropdown list.
  • In the [Word Options] dialog box, click on the [Advanced] menu option in the left pane.
  • Scroll down to the [Editing Options] section and uncheck the option [When selecting, automatically select entire word].
  • Click [OK] to apply the changes and close the dialog box.
